Black Sunday (VHS) – Mario Bava – The Mask of Satan – Italian Gothic Horror Classic
Enter the haunting world of Italian Gothic horror with Black Sunday (La maschera del demonio), the legendary 1960 film that established director Mario Bava as one of the most influential visual stylists in horror cinema. Also known as The Mask of Satan, this atmospheric classic combines eerie black-and-white cinematography, sinister supernatural imagery, and macabre storytelling.
In 17th-century Moldavia, Princess Asa Vajda and her accomplice are condemned for witchcraft and executed with a spiked mask pressed against their faces. Two centuries later, a pair of traveling doctors accidentally revive Asa, unleashing a terrifying supernatural plot for revenge against her descendants. As dark forces gather around an isolated ancestral estate, the living become entangled in a nightmare of witchcraft, vampirism, and the undead.
Starring Barbara Steele in a memorable dual role, alongside John Richardson and Andrea Checchi, Black Sunday is celebrated for its striking visuals, gothic atmosphere, and influential horror imagery. Its unsettling opening sequence and expressionistic style helped shape generations of filmmakers and cemented its place among the essential classics of international horror.
A must-have for collectors of vintage horror, Italian genre cinema, and the legendary works of Mario Bava, this VHS edition brings a landmark piece of supernatural cinema to your physical-media collection.
