The Call of Cthulhu: The Celebrated Story of H.P. Lovecraft (DVD, 2005) – Silent Film

H.P. Lovecraft’s legendary tale of cosmic terror comes to life in this atmospheric silent-film adaptation from the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society. Presented in the style of a classic 1920s silent movie, The Call of Cthulhu follows Francis Wayland Thurston as he investigates the mysterious notes and artifacts left behind by his deceased great-uncle—and uncovers a terrifying connection to the ancient entity Cthulhu.

Directed by Andrew Leman and starring Matt Foyer as Thurston, this acclaimed independent adaptation embraces the visual language of early silent cinema, using black-and-white photography, intertitles, elaborate miniatures, and an original orchestral score to bring Lovecraft’s cosmic horror to the screen. The film runs approximately 47 minutes.
