A bizarre and lurid classic of postwar genre cinema! In this cult-ish West German shocker directed by Victor Trivas, a scientist’s groundbreaking serum can keep severed tissue alive — but obsession and madness soon twist science into grotesque spectacle. After the pioneering doctor dies of a heart attack, his deranged assistant uses the serum to preserve his mentor’s head, forcing it to aid in a disturbing experiment: grafting the head of a hunchbacked nurse onto the shapely body of a nightclub dancer. The result is a surreal blend of macabre horror and 1950s exploitation thrills that’s as wild as its premise suggests.
